Finding my impulse-purchase stationery and my documents has always been a pain. I sometimes remember where I last saw the item but a system which points me directly to the item was always on my mind. The current app is a result of the same thought process and personal need. I intend to share a vision of the solution in my own way. A – Answer: What problem does it solve? You own the thing, you know you put it somewhere safe, and now you're opening every drawer in the room. Ubicato keeps a true to scale 3D model of your room and remembers where each item is. Type "stap" and pick the stapler. The right drawer opens on screen, an orange beam marks the spot, and arrows on the floor lead you to it. A small card also says something like "ahead, to your left, about eye level." It can track what you've lent out too, including who has it and when it's due back. The catch is setup. You enter the room's measurements and add your cupboards and items by hand, because nothing gets scanned. That's real work up front. But I believe that’s better than forgetting the item forever. B – Better: Why is it better than the alternatives? It depends on what you want, and some of these beat it at certain things. Prices are from the US App Store today. - Sortly: Mainly a business inventory tool. It needs an account, and its paid plans are subscriptions starting at $4.99. Ubicato is meant for your own room, and you don't sign up for anything. - Under My Roof: A very good app and an Editors' Choice. It covers maintenance, repairs and documents, and syncs across iPhone, iPad and Mac. If you want records for the whole house, get that one. It costs $4.99/month or $34.99/year, while Ubicato does less and you pay once. - ItemMap: You scan with your iPhone camera, so there's far less setup, and it estimates what your things are worth. But it's iPhone only, streams video to its servers, and costs $19.99/month or $149.99/year after your first free room. By its own description it can't see inside closed boxes. Ubicato knows what's in a closed drawer because you told it, and it runs offline with no account. - MyHomeBlock:*The closest match, and also a 3D storage map with a $9.99 lifetime option. It has things I don't, like multiple floors, expiry reminders and an iPhone version. It goes read-only after a 14 day trial, whereas Ubicato's free version doesn't expire. Its listing also doesn't mention lending, which Ubicato tracks. Where Ubicato falls short: it's iPad only, English only, measurements are in centimetres, and it doesn't sync between devices. Backups go to the Files app. I believe inventory management is best handled on an iPad. C – Cost: Pricing, IAP details and link - Free download: one room of your own and up to 50 items, with every feature included. The free version has no time limit. - Ubicato Pro: a one-time in-app purchase of $9.99 in the US (₹499 in India). It unlocks unlimited rooms and items and lets you edit the sample office. It works with Family Sharing. - There's no subscription, no ads and no account. The only thing that needs internet is buying or restoring Pro. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ubicato-3d-inventory-manager/id6823027253 It opens with a sample office, so you can search "stapler" and see how it works before setting anything up. If you try it, I'd really like to know whether the setup feels like too much work. submitted by /u/GeoOpt to r/ShowMeYourApps [link] [comments]
