I'm not buying the "built it in 2 days, now at XYZ MRR" stories

Wait 5 sec.

My social media feed is full of these. "Shipped a demo in 2 days, now making 4k MRR." They look like huge wins and they pull in a ton of traffic. But whenever I go looking for the product that's supposedly pulling this off, it either doesn't exist and the story is made up, or it exists and there's no way it's making that kind of money. I used to dig into the projects that share real Stripe numbers too, until I noticed a lot of those get faked as well. After that I kind of lost interest in learning from them. I'm pretty sure there's a part of these stories nobody shares. Was your first customer your cousin? How much did you spend on ads before anyone paid you? Or is the post itself the ad? I build small side projects with agents after work too. And yes, some of them really do take two days. The agent writes the code, the UI and the architecture look legit, but it's still a two-day project. At a hackathon you don't even need something finished, since a clickable prototype is enough to get you some attention. But honestly, every time I've tried to build something bigger than a demo, bigger in engineering, in UX, or just in what it means to people, it took me months before I could put it in front of my first potential customer. If I threw together some clickable page and showed it to customers, they might say the idea is great, but it would still be a long way from a real launch. That gap is one I can't skip, at least not mentally. Before AI, founders spent a year building a first version before getting any real user feedback. AI shortens that a lot. But for me it still took months to build and polish, not days. Four figures boost with two days work? Come on. You're either a marketing account, a scammer that not sharing full stories, or insanely lucky. If it's the last one, enjoy it. submitted by /u/EstablishmentGood414 [link] [comments]
