Thanks to an inspired steering job by pilot Keita Tosaki, Danon Decile won his third Group 1 race in Sunday's Tenno Sho (Autumn) at Tokyo. The Danox Inc. runner was brought out into the centre of the course for the stretch drive in the 2000-metre affair, and he avoided the traffic woes of a multitude of rivals to win free and clear by 2 1/2 lengths over the 39-1 shot Nebra Disk (Duramente), who emerged from the scrum to be three-quarters of a length in front of Japanese champion and multiple Group 1 heroine Regaleira (Suave Richard) in third.Sent off at 9-1, the son of Epiphaneia loitered near the back of the field after breaking in the car park, stall 17. Readiness (Suave Richard) took up the running while shadowed by Ho O Biscuits (Mind Your Biscuits). The top two picks, 23-10 Croix Du Nord (Kitasan Black) was in fifth and 25-10 Masquerade Ball (Duramente) raced in 14th turning into the backstretch and through the first 1000 metres in :58.80.With a half-mile remaining, Realize Sirius (Poetic Flare) challenged Readiness for the lead. Danon Decile, never closer than one off the fence, remained last but one and swung wider midway on the final bend. Winding up for a big run, the eventual winner was guided out widest of all closer to the stands than the inner rail to produce his run. Readiness still held a slim advantage with a quarter remaining, but Danon Decile held all the momentum and steamed home a good-looking winner. Nebra Disk, a half-brother to Japanese Horse of the Year Lys Gracieux (Heart's Cry), emerged from near the fence to just best Regaleira to his inside.Despite saving ground for much of the trip, Croix Du Nord lacked critical room in the closing stages and ran fifth. Masquerade Ball, back in 14th for much of the race, faced a wall of horses and was unable to get a clear run, trailing in 11th.“He was running at a good rhythm and had much left in the final homestretch,” said jockey Keita Tosaki of the 2024 Japanese Champion Three-Year-Old Colt. “I thought I may have hit the front too early. [In his previous starts] he had finished third consecutively, but going into the race today, I believed that his record did not reflect his ability.“We drew the outside gate, so after discussing with the trainer several times, we went into the race with a strong belief in the horse and to let him run with a good rhythm. I also want to thank all the fans who kept believing in the horse.”A winner in three starts at two, Danon Decile kicked off his three-year-old season with a win in the G3 Keisei Hai and, after missing the G1 Japanese 2000 Guineas, captured the G1 Japanese Derby (Tokyo Yushun). He signed off with a third in the G1 Arima Kinen in December of 2024 to none other than Regaleira. After taking the G2 American Jockey Club Stakes in January of 2025, he added the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan that April. Fifth in the G1 Juddmonte International, he ran third in the G1 Japan Cup and another edition of the Arima Kinen that November and December, respectively. Seen only twice prior to Sunday's heroics, the chestnut was third to Croix Du Nord in April's G1 Osaka Hai and in the G1 Takarazuka Kinen to Meisho Tabaru (Gold Ship) in June.Pedigree NotesBy Shadai Stallion Station's Epiphaneia, Danon Decile is one of his sire's seven Group 1 winners and 29 stakes winners.Second in both the GI Alcibiades Stakes and the GI Breeders' Cup Juveinle Fillies at two, Top Decile, in foal to American Pharoah, brought $950,000 when selling during the 2017 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale to Shadai Farm.
