Building software with AI has made me realize how much I underestimated software development

Wait 5 sec.

I went into this thinking the difficult part would be getting the thing to work. Turns out getting something to work once is probably the easiest part lol. It's everything that happens afterward that's ridiculous. Fix one issue, accidentally break something unrelated. Add a feature, discover six edge cases. Think you've finally covered everything, then test it with something slightly different and watch it fall apart. I've spent more time deliberately trying to break what I've built than I ever expected. Coming from an engineering and R&D background, I actually enjoy that part. But holy shit, I have a lot more respect for what goes into maintaining software now. AI makes getting started surprisingly accessible. It definitely doesn't make the complexity disappear. submitted by /u/_ACTUALin [link] [comments]
