Namibia bans imports of beetroot, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers and onions due to sufficient local supply

Wait 5 sec.

The Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) has officially prohibited the imports of beetroot, green cabbage, orange carrots, English cucumbers and onions for the month of November due to sufficient domestic production to meet local demand. 🥬 Imports of gem squash, jam tomatoes, cocktail tomatoes, round tomatoes and sweetcorn will be limited to 50%, while green peppers, iceberg lettuce and spinach will have a 30% import allowance. Coloured peppers and sweet potatoes will be restricted to 20%, based on anticipated domestic production and market demand. Butternut, washed potatoes, watermelons, sweet melons and pumpkins will remain open for importation. The restrictions are part of the NAB’s efforts to prioritise locally produced vegetables, support domestic farmers, and regulate imports according to seasonal availability. submitted by /u/namibpulse [link] [comments]
