Wait 5 sec.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile champion Hughes (Into Mischief) will stand at Spendthrift Farm upon his retirement from racing, according to an advertisement placed in Monday's edition of the TDN. The news was confirmed by Front Line Racing's Tom Ryan, one of the colt's owners.Hughes, all but certain to be named the Eclipse Award Champion Two-Year-Old Colt, ran his record to five-for-five in the Juvenile. He has registered wins in three Grade Is, including the American Pharoah and the Del Mar Futurity, in addition to a win in the GIII Best Pal Stakes and his maiden win on June 21, for which he was named a `TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard.'The two-year-old colt is owned by Front Line Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet, Bashor Racing, Albaugh Family Stable, Robert Masterson, Golconda Stable, Waves Edge Capital, and Catherine Donovan.Ryan pointed out how apt it was that Hughes would go on to stand at Spendthrift. The farm was purchased in 2004 by B. Wayne Hughes, a visionary entrepreneur, philanthropist and businessman who revived Spendthrift into one of the most powerful entities in the business.“Creating legacies through racehorses and stallions has always been our goal, for the horse, his breeder, his sire, and his pedigree,” said Ryan. “Knowing Hughes will retire to Spendthrift Farm at the end of his racing career is incredibly exciting. Eric (Gustavson), Ned (Toffey), and the team at Spendthrift are the definition of excellence. What they've built with Into Mischief, the greatest and the most successful stallion of my lifetime, speaks for itself. Hughes carries a name with real meaning to Spendthrift and to our family, so this feels like he's going home.”Hughes was named after Olympic gold medalist Jack Hughes, and shares the surname of Ryan's wife, Katie.Ryan made it clear that Hughes has a lot of racing ahead of him.“For now, our focus is the racetrack. We couldn't be more proud of Hughes, and we can't wait to see what he does as he grows into his frame at three.”Hughes's victory, along with that of Sovereignty in the Breeders' Cup Classic, propelled his sire, Into Mischief, into the number one spot on the TDN General Sire rankings. With earnings of $30,452,713, he vaulted past Not This Time, who remains in second with earnings of $29,902,352.Into Mischief is seeking his eighth straight leading sire title. The post Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Champion Hughes to Stand at Spendthrift Upon Retirement appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
