Follow-up to a floor plan test from earlier: can Claude take those same drawings (a plan and two elevations of a small house) and build the 3D model? No Blender add-on or MCP. Claude read the three PNG sheets, wrote one Python script and ran Blender headless with blender -b -P build_house.py. Claude Code 2.1.316, Opus 5.5, Blender 5.2.3 on a Mac. Round 1 took about 6.5 minutes. It caught three problems in its own renders and fixed them: the window and door cuts failed on flipped faces, the top view hid the interior doorways, and shadows covered the plan view. It also listed every dimension it used and flagged what it had to guess, like interior doors and closets that weren’t dimensioned on the plan (“could be off by about 2 inches”). Round 2 was one set of review comments: siding, shingles and trim from the elevation notes, kitchen and bath fixtures, a cutaway with the roof off, and a 10-second turntable video. About 8 minutes. Then the saved .blend was measured with a separate script. Footprint, floor height, wall height, ridge, roof pitch, overhangs, all 11 exterior openings and the steps all matched the drawings. Both rounds were $6.29 by Claude Code’s estimate, most of it cache reads. The video was the most expensive part. What still needs a human: tub and linen cabinet blend into one block in the top view fixture positions are Claude’s own choices since the plan doesn’t dimension them the dining table on the plan wasn’t in the fixture list, so it was left out textures are simpler in the .glb than in Blender’s own renders And it’s not BIM. The walls and windows are named 3D shapes, not real building elements with data. For Revit you’d want an MCP server talking to the Revit API, which this didn’t test. https://aiparabellum.com/claude-blender-floor-plan-to-3d-model-tested/ submitted by /u/vinishkapoor to r/ClaudeAI [link] [comments]
