A man returning home to California after a trip to New York City expected to spend a quiet evening eating pizza and recovering from an exhausting travel day. Instead, a minor traffic mistake turned into a bizarre confrontation after the pickup truck driver he had accidentally cut off reportedly followed him to the restaurant and started making threats, according to a Reddit post made by u/vivvav. The man claimed that he had taken an early flight home after visiting New York and was apparently hungry, so he decided to pick up an order from his favorite pizza place rather than cook something himself. However, a few blocks from the restaurant, he reportedly encountered an obstruction that had brought traffic in his lane to a standstill. With the neighboring lane moving slowly, he checked his mirror, signaled, and attempted to merge. He apparently misjudged the distance to a nearby pickup truck, forcing its driver to brake suddenly and honk. The man admitted that the mistake was his fault, but claimed there had been no collision and both vehicles continued moving. The encounter was apparently far from over He thought the incident was over until he reached the pizza shop a couple of minutes later. While checking a message in his parked car, he claimed that he noticed “this very angry man outside the front door of the shop who begins yelling at me.” The man described the driver’s pickup as unusually massive and said the stranger was allegedly making violent threats, including shouting, “I’m out here killing m***********s left and right, you don’t even know!” Guy I cut off in traffic follows me to my "job" to try and get me fired. byu/vivvav inIDontWorkHereLady The user further admitted that he did “cut him off” and that he tried “to apologize,” but the driver apparently began heading into the pizza place, which left the user wondering, “What are the odds we were going to the same spot? Even with the way he’s acting, I guess it’s only fair I let him get his pizza first; maybe that’ll calm him down.” A moment later, he realized the stranger was apparently not there to order food. Instead, the driver was shouting at the employees and accusing the restaurant’s “delivery boy” of cutting him off in traffic. The alleged accusation confused the user, who professed that he was wearing a graphic T-shirt, red suspenders, and a red newsboy hat, rather than anything resembling a restaurant uniform. He eventually claimed that he raised his voice and firmly told the driver, “I don’t work here.” The stranger briefly appeared caught off guard before allegedly responding, “W-well you LOOK like the kinda clown who would work here.” He then reportedly continued ranting, leaving the user increasingly concerned about how far the confrontation might go. “This dude is fucking unhinged and part of me is beginning to worry that this is the kind of guy who might have a weapon on him,” the user suspected. According to the user, fortunately, two police officers happened to be eating lunch inside the restaurant and came over after hearing the commotion. They reportedly asked the staff whether they wanted the driver to remain there, and when the employees said no, the officers made him leave. Apparently, there was no arrest, and the user did not have to give a statement. Even after the situation ended, however, he was nervous about walking back outside in case the driver was waiting for him. Thankfully, the massive pickup was seemingly gone by the time he finished collecting his pizza. He eventually made it home safely, but claimed the experience left him on edge for several days. According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, before changing lanes, you should check your blind spots for other vehicles, motorcyclists, and bicyclists. Do not let the vehicle drift into another lane. ShouseLaw mentions that an unsafe lane change can lead to a fine of up to $238, along with one point assessed on the driver’s DMV record.
