I built CoverScope, a radar coverage planner that runs over real terrain in the browser

CoverScope is a radar coverage planner that runs in the browser: you drop a radar on the map and see where it actually sees once the terrain gets in the way. The video is a terminal surveillance radar (S-band, typical values for that class) in an Alpine valley, looking for a fighter-sized target. It reaches about 60 km, but the valley walls decide everything: only about a quarter of the covered area sees a target at 50 m above the ground, and 41% of it only from 1,000 m up. The last frame is the same map colored by probability of detection. Under the hood: the radar equation with Swerling target models, ITU-R P.526 diffraction, earth curvature and atmospheric loss, over real elevation data. Results export to KML, GeoTIFF, DXF, Excel and PDF. It's a paid tool (US$ 11.90/month) with a 3-day trial: usecoverscope.com submitted by /u/Own_Medium_3805 [link] [comments]
