A Malta-based hotel group has announced it will help cover increased work permit renewal costs for its foreign employees following changes announced in Budget 2027.The Warren Collection, which operates Park Heights in Msida and Eleven in Sliema, has pledged to contribute up to €400 towards the additional renewal costs faced by eligible third-country national (TCN) employees. The initiative will come into effect in January 2027, when the government’s increased work permit charges are set to take effect. The hospitality group, which also operates in England and Northern Ireland, said the decision reflects its commitment to supporting international workers amid rising living and employment costs.“We recognise that many of our international colleagues have travelled thousands of miles, leaving behind their families and loved ones to build a better future in Malta,” the company said.It added that these employees play an essential role in Malta’s hospitality industry and contribute significantly to the local economy.“We don’t believe our employees should have to face every new financial challenge alone.”The move follows a similar announcement by Ramla Bay Resort over the weekend, with the Mellieħa hotel also pledging up to €400 towards TCN employees’ work permit renewal costs, alongside service bonuses and wellbeing initiatives.Beyond financial assistance, The Warren Collection said it is also planning further initiatives focused on employee recognition, professional development and wellbeing.“Our employees look after our guests every day. We believe it is equally important that we look after them,” the company said.Do you think more employers should follow suit?•
