Spurs have recorded back-to-back home wins for the first time in two years after beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having enjoyed a one-man advantage for almost the entire game following Jean-Philippe Mateta’s early red card. What an incredible turnaround of events in North London. To put it into perspective, Spurs did not win three consecutive games at any point during the entirety of the 2024/25 season. This time around, following a six-game winless start to the campaign, they have now made it three wins on the bounce, beating Coventry, Chelsea and now Crystal Palace. He took no risks with James Maddison, who had suffered an injury scare in that game, replacing him with Dominic Solanke. Omar Marmoush operated in the number 10 role instead. A counter-attack ended with Daichi Kamada getting a shot away, which Antonin Kinsky gathered at the second attempt. It proved to be a quiet evening for the Czech goalkeeper, who had very little to do after that. That was largely because the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Jean-Philippe Mateta caught Micky van de Ven’s heel with his studs in a lunging challenge. The referee initially issued a yellow, but VAR intervened and Mateta was shown a red card.Palace therefore had little option but to sit deeper and defend. Tottenham took their time on the ball, showing absolutely no urgency to rush things or force their way through the visitors’ low block. However, one lapse in concentration proved enough for Spurs to take the lead. An entirely unmarked Archie Gray rose highest at the back post to head home Mohammed Kudus’ corner in the 25th minute.Andy Robertson then tried his luck from distance with a swerving effort that Dean Henderson gathered at the second attempt. That was about as close as Tottenham came to doubling their lead before the break.Photo by Harvey Murphy/News Images/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesSecond half: Tottenham 2-0 Crystal PalaceRather bizarrely, goalscorer Gray was substituted at half-time. De Zerbi revealed after the game that he did not want to take any risks, given that the midfielder was already on a yellow card.Pedro Porro came on in his place, and Tottenham’s right-hand side looked even better. It was from the Spaniard’s pass that Spurs created one of their best opportunities to double their advantage, with Solanke turning and unleashing a powerful shot that Henderson pushed away.Marmoush, Fernandes, Van Hecke and Tel all came close with efforts following some patient build-up play. However, they were briefly caught off guard when Palace broke forward on a rare counter-attack. Dwight McNeil found himself with an opportunity in front of goal, but his effort was blocked by Solanke. That missed chance would come back to haunt the visitors, as they conceded almost immediately. Van Hecke first saw his header crash against the crossbar before reacting quickly to meet the rebound with another header, this time poking the ball beyond Henderson and into the net.It was the first header scored from a seated position in Premier League history. (Squawka)Substitute Conor Gallagher should have added a third later on when he chested down a ball inside the box, but Henderson pulled out an incredible save to save the bouncing shot. With a two-goal advantage, a man extra and only a few minutes remaining, there could hardly have been a better opportunity for academy prospect Luca Williams-Barnett to make his Premier League debut. The teenager immediately showed what he could offer, going on a mazy dribble that created a chance for Kudus, only for him to somehow make a mess of a simple tap-in in front of an open goal.Introducing Luca Williams-Barnett ✨ https://t.co/87aDQtokjx— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) November 1, 2026Dejan Kulusevski then saw a curling effort tipped over the bar, and that was that. Three more points for Spurs, who move up to eighth in the Premier League table.READ MORE: Tottenham should be concerned by what Mykhailo Mudryk has planned for NovemberThe post Tottenham 2-0 Crystal Palace Match Report: Luca Williams-Barnett is the icing on the cake appeared first on Spurs Web.
