Gold: down 31% from the record, four structures meet near $3,700GoldTVC:GOLDJonahHaGold closed Friday at $3,875, down 3.6% on the day and 6.9% in October. That is 31% below the all-time high of $5,598.75 from January 29, and the lowest level since early October 2025. The path (month-end close): Dec 4,318 · Jan 4,895 · Feb 5,279 · Mar 4,672 · Apr 4,617 · May 4,538 · Jun 4,007 · Jul 4,041 · Aug 4,448 · Sep 4,161 · Oct 3,875 What the chart doesn't show: the cost of holding gold. The 10-year real Treasury yield was 1.89% on the day of the record and 2.60% on Friday. The twist: in October it eased from 2.95% (October 5) to 2.60%, and gold still fell, so real rates alone don't explain this leg. Positioning: non-commercial traders were still net long 199,865 Comex gold futures on October 20, roughly 20 million ounces (CFTC Commitments of Traders). On the chart: - Turquoise TD box: the 0.618–0.685 retracement of the whole rise from the November 14, 2024 low ($2,536.89) to the record, $3,707–3,501. - Green modified Schiff pitchfork from the March 23 low ($4,098.74), the April 17 high ($4,890.97) and the June 30 low ($3,942.71). Its upper line met the August 25 high ($4,697.07) within about $11. - Red line through the March 23 and June 30 lows. It runs right on the lower line of the green fork, now near $3,747. - Blue pitchfork from the April 17 high, the June 30 low and the August 25 high. Its median line is near $3,780 and falls faster than the red line. The blue median crosses the red line around November 9 near $3,733, just above the top of the TD box ($3,707), and the red line reaches the box itself in late November. So $3,700–3,750 is where the TD box, the red line, the green fork and the blue median overlap in the coming weeks. Price is about $140 above it. A move into that area would test the 2024–2026 retracement for the first time; a turn higher before it would leave the box untouched. That is the area I'm watching – I hold no position in gold.
