Andoni Iraola has said he will tell his Liverpool players to ‘dive’ under contact after his team were not awarded a penalty against Arsenal.Liverpool lost 1-0 to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday and the home side were furious after the referee’s failure to award them a penalty. Alexander Isak had his shirt pulled back by Jurrien Timber in the area, but the officials did not award a foul, with Isak not going to ground.Virgil van Dijk hit out at the officials at full-time, while Iraola said Isak was penalised for not going down. He said players need to ‘dive’ under contact to ensure officials spot fouls.“There is a clear grab of the shirt,” the Spaniard told Match of the Day. “Alex [Isak] was just in front of him, he was going to head in front of the goal but couldn’t because he grabbed the shirt.“If he goes to the floor, they call the penalty 100%. It should be like this but it is what it is. Next time, the managers should tell Alex to go to the floor, otherwise they won’t call it.“The answer is you have to dive, if you don’t dive they won’t call it. It’s a shame you ask me this question, but honestly, yes, we have to tell them, go down, because they’re not going to call it otherwise. And then referees complain why they go down. Because if you don’t go down, you don’t call it. Then it’s like, no, you are all the time going down.“But I think Alex is honest. He tries to go for the ball, everyone can see live straight away that there is a clear, clear pull.”Ballon d’Or 2026 – Every winner from this year’s ceremonySee Also – Five of the best Premier League away kits in 2026/27Follow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post Iraola says he will tell Liverpool players to ‘dive’ in future after Isak incident appeared first on The Football Faithful.
