Barcelona are weighing up a move to sign Lisandro Martinez from Manchester United as the defender looks for an exit.Martinez has found himself at the centre of controversy in recent weeks, following an outburst against the club’s ownership last month, and a red card during the weekend defeat to Chelsea. The 28-year-old was dismissed as Manchester United’s winless run reached nine games at Stamford Bridge, for two bookings in a matter of minutes. Martinez’s unhappiness is set to lead to an exit with his contract due to expire in the summer.Barcelona are considering a cut-price approach in January, as Hansi Flick looks to add to his depleted defence. A number of injury issues have left the Spanish champions light and Martinez is on the club’s radar. Barca boss Hansi Flick this week said that the club would assess options in the winter window.“We always look for what’s best for the team. And we’re doing that. We’ll see, there are still a few weeks until the winter transfer window opens. If we can do something, maybe we will.”Barcelona’s interest in Martinez could aid Manchester United’s own pursuit of Alejandro Balde. The 23-year-old has been linked with the Premier League side, who are keen to sign a left-back. Balde has not started a La Liga fixture this season and could be sold, as Barcelona look to make room for another defensive addition. Due to La Liga’s financial rules, Barca would have to sell a player in order to bring in a new signing in January.Ballon d’Or 2026 – Every winner from this year’s ceremonySee Also – Five of the best Premier League away kits in 2026/27Follow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post Barcelona weigh up move for unhappy Martinez to ease defensive issues appeared first on The Football Faithful.
