Just Arsenal, Ray Parlour and AI Glasses: Fun At The Oakley Meta Partnership Launch

Wait 5 sec.

Just Arsenal was invited to North London on Thursday for the launch of Arsenal’s new partnership with Oakley Meta, and it turned into a memorable morning of football, technology and conversation with Arsenal legend Ray Parlour. The event took place at The Gunners Pub, a familiar location for supporters, where the new Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses were part of a celebration of Arsenal’s connection with its fans. The launch centred on We Go Again, a new film featuring Declan Rice returning to the streets of North London along Arsenal’s title-winning parade route. Wearing the Oakley Meta glasses, Rice revisits the celebrations while looking ahead to the challenges still to come. The message is simple: enjoy success, but never stop striving for more.Trying the Oakley Meta glasses firsthandHaving travelled into London to attend the event, I was particularly interested in experiencing the technology for myself. The glasses were set up through the Meta AI app on my phone, and I was able to try out the voice controls, take photographs and record video without needing to hold a camera.I have to say, I was impressed. The image quality was excellent, and being able to capture photographs and videos simply by speaking opens up some interesting possibilities, particularly for people creating content. There are additional features, including messaging and music integration, which I am still exploring, but my first experience was certainly positive.Arsenal‘s new partnership with Oakley Meta is about more than the glasses themselves. The We Go Again campaign connects the technology with the club’s supporters, its North London roots and the determination to keep building on success.Ray Parlour shares his Arsenal memories and hopes for the futureThe appearance of Ray Parlour gave the event something particularly special for Arsenal fans.Ray was in excellent form, entertaining those attending with stories about his playing days, Arsène Wenger, the Invincibles and Arsenal’s famous 5-1 victory away to Inter Milan. There were plenty of laughs, particularly when he recalled captaining Arsenal for that remarkable victory and joking about why he wasn’t made permanent captain afterwards! But what stood out was how passionate he remains about Arsenal today. When asked about watching the current side as a supporter, Ray said:“I’m kicking every ball still. I’m in the stands, you know. I’m disappointed like all you guys when we lose.“But it’s just great to be watching a really good side now.”He was especially enthusiastic about the strength of the squad.“Look at our bench now. It’s full of internationals.“Squad depth is very important. We know games come thick and fast now. Champions League format now, a lot more games and all that.”Ray has previously spoken about Arsenal’s ability to find a way to win even when performances fall short, and it was fascinating to hear his wider thoughts on the qualities required to sustain success. We have also featured his assessment of how Arsenal’s current defence compares with the great sides of the past, another subject on which few former players are better qualified to comment.Ray also spoke warmly about Declan Rice, describing him as one of Arsenal’s best signings and highlighting the influence he has on younger players, including Max Dowman.Oakley MetaI’ll be sharing more of those comments, along with some wonderful memories of the Invincibles and Wenger’s approach to managing his players, in separate Just Arsenal articles. For me, the event was a lovely opportunity to experience some impressive technology while spending time in the surroundings of a club that means so much to so many of us.The Oakley Meta partnership is an interesting development in how Arsenal connects with supporters, and hearing Ray Parlour talk about the club, its history and its future was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my visit. What do you think of Arsenal’s Oakley Meta partnership, and do you share Ray Parlour’s enthusiasm for the current squad?
