Group 1-winning jockey Jack Nicholls has been banned 25 days, with eight deferred, for breaking the whip rules for the fifth time in six months. At the time of the John Mackenzie and Hamish MacGregor Memorial Handicap at Hamilton, Nicholls was still claiming three pounds when his mount, Strength Of Spirit (Ulysses), finished second. He was found to have used his whip seven times, once more than the allowed six, and it was the fourth time he has gone over the permitted level in the space of six months. The eight days are deferred for a period of six months or 200 rides, whichever comes first, and one is to be spent receiving specialised coaching.Judicial panel member Sam Magee KC brought up that Nicholls had committed five breaches in 155 rides between June 23 and September 28, resulting in one breach every 31 rides. He said, “More troubling still, the BHA wrote to him on 14th August and again on 15th September warning that he was close to totting up. Within a fortnight of the second letter he had offended again.”Nicholls is the son of trainer Adrian and grandson of former trainer Dandy Nicholls. His Group 1 win was aboard Miss Yechance (Cotai Glory) in the G1 Prix de l'Abbaye in France in October. He rode her to finish 10th of 16 in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint on Saturday. The post Jack Nicholls Suspended For 25 Days For Whip Overuse appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
