I failed at selling CV templates in 2016. Ten years later I came back and built the whole tool

Wait 5 sec.

My first attempt in 2016 flopped. Ten years of product design later, I tried again Back in 2016 I sold CV templates on a small WordPress site. Word, PSD, Illustrator files. I designed every one of them, set up the shop myself, and spent nights on spacing and typography. A few sold. Then I noticed the real problem: people bought a nice file and then fought with it in Word. Text overflowed, margins broke, sections didn't fit. The design was fine, the experience around it wasn't. I dropped it. Then I spent 14 years as a product designer in Istanbul, working with e-commerce companies, software firms and agencies. And one thing kept bugging me. Most resumes I saw were hard to read, and it wasn't the people. Nobody gives them any guidance. They get a blank page, a pile of conflicting advice, and a tool that lets them do anything. So they do everything. This year I finally came back to it and built Luxury Resume. A few decisions I made: - Free ATS check that shows what to fix first, not just a score - Country settings (US, UK, Germany, Gulf), since photo, paper size and length rules differ - All your versions in one place, so you stop digging through sent emails - Free PDF download, and paid passes are one-time. No trial that turns into a subscription Last week I got my first paying customer. One sale, but after ten years it felt like a lot. I wrote the full story here if you're curious: https://medium.com/@mertguler/most-resumes-are-hard-to-read-as-a-product-designer-i-wanted-to-fix-the-tool-not-the-people-484b624aa8ce The site: luxuryresume.com I'd love honest feedback, especially on the ATS report and pricing. What would make you actually use something like this? submitted by /u/Mertcreative [link] [comments]
