European stocks are off to a rather subdued start to the new month, with most major indices observing light changes as the session gets underway. The cautious mood comes after a rough end to October as investors continue to grapple with concerns surrounding AI spending and the outlook for major central banks amid growing inflation pressures. Here are the opening changes:Eurostoxx flatGermany DAX -0.2%France CAC 40 -0.2%UK FTSE -0.3%Spain IBEX +0.6%Italy FTSE MIB +0.1%After a miserable run last week, the IBEX is seen bouncing back a little and seeking a bit of a respite today. Spanish stocks had been battered by the fallout from Brazil's election shock, with banking heavyweights such as Santander and BBVA coming under significant selling pressure. The early gains today offer some welcome relief, although there's still plenty of ground to make up after the recent declines.Besides that, there's not much appetite elsewhere across Europe. As things stand, investors are still trying to find their footing after last week's selloff in techn shares especially.Even with the better mood in US futures today, we're not seeing that translate to any rebound in the broader risk mood. S&P 500 futures are up 0.3% with Nasdaq futures up 0.7% as tech shares lead the bounce for now. But again, it comes after a bloodbath on Friday as there remains plenty of questions surrounding lofty AI spending commitments and whether they will eventually translate into meaningful returns. And those won't be going away any time soon. We'll still have a couple of big central bank decisions to deal with this week, with the RBA and BOE lined up. And on the economic data front, we will have Eurozone inflation data and the US jobs report on the cards too. But before we get to much of those items on the agenda, the US midterm elections tomorrow will be the bigger focus. So, all of that should give traders plenty to chew on as November gets underway.
