Mikel Arteta has every reason to feel proud of his Arsenal players after they secured a memorable victory over Liverpool at Anfield yesterday. The result moved the Gunners nine points clear of the Reds and helped them regain top spot in the league.Arsenal have been impressive in the league this season, with the shock 3-0 defeat to Brighton a few weeks ago standing out as an exception. Liverpool, meanwhile, had been enjoying a five-game winning run heading into the contest and were expected to continue their strong home record against the Gunners. Both sides started positively and looked to take the game to their opponents. Arsenal made a strong start, found an early opening goal and then showed the discipline required to protect their advantage until the final whistle.Arteta delighted with Arsenal’s responseArteta has been keen to keep his players focused on the challenges still ahead, but he could not hide his happiness after the final whistle. Speaking to Arsenal Media, the manager expressed his pride in the performance and what the result meant to everyone connected with the club.“So happy, so proud, full of energy.“What can I say – it’s a proud moment for everybody attached with the football club. It’s been 14 years waiting for this moment, and we did it in very special circumstances after the defeat against Fleetwood in a way we didn’t deserve four days ago. And now having to come to Anfield, making sure everybody is convinced, prepared and ready to navigate a football match, that is going to have very difficult moments, some big opportunities and when they come, you need to be ready to grab them. What the boys have done is remarkable.”(Photo by Michael Steele/Getty Images)A result to remember for Arsenal fansThe victory carries significance beyond the three points, given the long wait Arteta referenced and the challenge of winning at Anfield. Arsenal had to withstand difficult moments and take their opportunity when it arrived, before seeing out the match. The result also gives the Gunners breathing space over Liverpool, who had arrived on a strong run of form. Moving nine points clear of the Reds and returning to the top of the table will provide a further lift to a team that has made an impressive start to its league campaign. For Arsenal supporters, it is a result that should live long in the memory. Coming away from Anfield with all three points is a major moment for the club, and Arteta’s reaction reflected the importance of the achievement._____________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans.
