All that game formats - explained in one post

Wait 5 sec.

Hi all! There have been a lot of repeated questions about how to run PS5 games and which formats to use, so here's a quick breakdown. 1. Best option overall If your firmware is 11.60 or lower, use FPKG (.pkg). You get native performance, but games need to be installed on the internal SSD. 2. If you're on newer firmware or don't have enough internal storage Packs: zstd - The newest pack format. Performance and game size are close to FPKG. lz4 - Another pack format with decent performance, but significantly larger file sizes. Images: exfat - The king of compatibility. Runs almost any game. ffpfsc - Can compress games well, but performance is poor. You're better off using zstd, which offers even better compression without sacrificing performance. ffpkg / ffpfs - Can be used similarly to exfat, but aren't really necessary in practice (nice to have, though). The rule of thumb: Firmware 11.60 or lower → FPKG Anything newer → zstd exfat is also a solid option, especially for older games. Most other formats are just a rabbit hole that'll have you spending hours troubleshooting why game X isn't working or is broken. Tool recommendation: Here's a tool that can help you work with zstd (a relatively new format): https://github.com/quer3q/ampr-emu-ng P.S. I'm the author of both the tool and the new format. Just sharing some knowledge I've gathered during my research. Hope it helps! submitted by /u/Klutzy_Shake58 [link] [comments]
