I built That is true. with Codex: an unofficial, AI-assisted Frog and Toad comic site. It runs twice a day, turning recent reporting into small, deadpan comics. Every strip ends with “That is true.” said Frog. The pipeline searches for stories, checks their original sources and timestamps, asks three writing agents for different takes, and has an editor pick a script. It then generates two illustrations, reviews them, and typesets the dialogue in code. It can skip a run if nothing passes review. Stack: Vercel Workflow, Supabase, and the OpenAI API. The hardest part so far has been making the joke understandable without a paragraph explaining the headline. Starting with a concrete object helped more than adding more news context. The current comic is “The Starter Box.” Site and archive: https://that-is-true.com Would love feedback on whether the joke lands without opening the source article, and whether this feels worth revisiting. Scripts and art use AI; this is an independent experiment, not an official Frog and Toad project. submitted by /u/imfinn005 [link] [comments]
