Started my dream job, now wanting to quit— how soon is too soon to find another job?

Wait 5 sec.

Since graduating from nursing (3-ish years ago), I’ve worked two medsurg jobs, one outpatient addictions job, and I am now working in inpatient psych. It was my dream to work in my particular psychiatric nursing role. It’s highly acute, honestly a bit dangerous, but has many opportunities for learning. My coworkers are kind and i really enjoy the psychiatrists I work with. Despite that… I hate it. I dread going in to work everyday. Almost all my coworkers are so confident, excellent at being direct with patients, have amazing communication skills and I just… don’t? I’ve realized I’m not that great at talking to people. I think because of my ADHD my mouth runs faster than my thoughts most of the time. I didn’t realize how bad it was until my #1 needed nursing skill became my ability to talk, education, and deescalate. I’ve tried slowing down, changing up my meds, working on my confidence, etc., and it’s slowly getting better… but I my self-esteem has been shit since starting this role. All I can think about when at work and when I get home is just how awkward I am, how I stutter when nervous, how I said the wrong thing, etc etc etc… Like I accidentally called a patient’s milk “juice” the other day and that legit became his reason for not trusting me and him escalating to the point of PRNs… like what the fuck. I’m wanting to switch over to ER or ICU because I honestly really miss medicine. I miss learning about different medical disorders, being more task heavy, and dealing with codes and other critical situations. Would working 5 jobs in 3 years be looked down upon? I’m worried I’ll be seen as job-hopping and it could bite my ass down the line. Or should I stick out this psychiatry job for a year and see how I feel then? submitted by /u/Throwawayyawaworth9 [link] [comments]
