Students take a trial lesson and flinch once it comes to payment

Wait 5 sec.

Hey, so I am a tutor who has recently started to tutor UK students. I got the first 2 students without any friction, I offered a first free lesson as a trial, they liked it, paid for subsequent classes and are continuing to take the classes. However, after that the students just take a trial lesson, ask for a payment method so I share my remitly link since I'm not based in UK and they are like "Oh, you're not from UK? I wanted a tutor who's UK based. Sorry" like they did like the lesson not that they didnt like what I taught but when it comes to payment they are like they dont want someone international tutor. I currently charge £20/hr. What am I doing wrong? Is it due to the lot of time that it takes to setup Remitly ? For the context, I use UK based whatsapp number from the one I had during my trip to London for communication with students and they approach me there. I'm seriously considering if I should cancel doing free lessons and instead just do paid trial lessons ? Or should I look into ways to get a UK based payment receiving medium. What do you guys suggest I do? submitted by /u/StrongHunt1513 [link] [comments]
