Jamie Carragher believes a ‘great manager’ would be capable of turning around Manchester United’s fortunes.Manchester United are in the spotlight after the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign. United’s loss at Chelsea on Saturday made it nine games without a win in all competitions, and leaves the Red Devils 17th in the table.Michael Carrick is expected to remain in charge against Roma on Tuesday night, but his future is looking increasingly precarious. Despite a series of failed managerial appointments, Carragher believes a ‘great manager’ can change things at Old Trafford, insisting the club have the resources to become title challengers again.“A great manager can change a lot at a football club,” Carragher said to The Overlap Daily.“I think people would have looked at Liverpool before Jurgen Klopp came in and gone, ‘what a mess this is’. I think they’d have been looking at Aston Villa before Unai Emery came in and been going ‘what is going on here?’. A great manager can change a lot.”When pointed that Manchester United have had managers with great records and résumés, Carragher said the club’s past coaches should have done better.“They haven’t done well enough. Yes, the CV says they are great managers, how can it not work? But there are things you can look at and go, they should have done better than that. Even when Jose [Mourinho] came in. We all know Jose’s a great manager, but was he almost past his best when he came to United? In his first full season, he finished fifth. Then they finished second, and then the year after when he goes, I think they are sixth or seventh. Man United should be challenging for the league every year. Managers get enough transfer funds to make that a real opportunity and possibility.”Ballon d’Or 2026 – Every winner from this year’s ceremonySee Also – Five of the best Premier League away kits in 2026/27Follow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post Carragher confident a ‘great manager’ can revive Manchester United appeared first on The Football Faithful.
