The LASERSPEED LS-TH3R is a 3-in-1 aiming and illumination unit built for night vision shooters, and the headline number is its lack of weight. At only 6.1 oz (173 g), it carries a visible green laser, an infrared aiming laser and an adjustable infrared illuminator in a single housing. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new. Combining all three functions is the point. A visible green laser covers daylight and low-light work without night vision. An IR aiming laser gives a point of aim visible only through night vision. An IR illuminator floods the scene with infrared light so the night vision device has something to work with when ambient light runs short. Running those as three separate units means three mounts, three batteries and three sets of adjustments competing for rail space. The LS-TH3R puts them in one package. The illuminator is the technically interesting part. It uses an 850nm VCSEL emitter, short for Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser. A conventional edge-emitting laser diode used as an illuminator tends to produce a beam with speckle and hot spots, which is why many units add a diffuser and lose output in the process. A VCSEL emits from the surface of the chip rather than its edge, and the resulting beam is naturally more uniform across its width. For the shooter, that means a flatter, more even wash of infrared light rather than a bright centre with dim edges. The illuminator is adjustable, so the beam can be tightened for distance or opened up for close work. The laser system is co-aligned, which matters more than it sounds. On a unit with separate emitters, zeroing the visible laser does not necessarily zero the infrared one, and a shooter can end up maintaining two separate zeros on the same device. Co-alignment means the visible and IR beams share a point of aim, so one adjustment session covers both. Four beam settings let the user select which emitters are active. The LS-TH3R comes from Dandong Xunlei Technology Co., Ltd., based in Dandong City, Liaoning Province, China, which also builds laser sights, tactical lights, illuminators, red dots and holographic sights under the LASERSPEED name.LASERSPEED LS-TH3R at a glance:3-in-1 unit: visible green laser, IR aiming laser, adjustable IR illuminatorWeight: 6.1 oz (173 g)Illuminator: adjustable 850nm VCSELFour beam settingsGreen laser: 515±5 nm, under 0.7 mW or under 5 mWIR laser: 830±15 nm, under 0.7 mW or under 5 mWIR illuminator: 830±15 nm, under 5 mW or under 70 mW, VCSELIR illuminator beam divergence: 2°, 7°, 12° or 17°Aiming laser beam divergence: under 0.8 mradWindage and elevation click value: 0.3 mrad (1 MOA)Windage and elevation adjustment range: ±2°Battery: one CR123A 3 V or one 16340 3.7 VMade in China by Dandong Xunlei Technology Co., Ltd.More details at: https://ddlaserspeed.com/ Would you run a combined unit like this, or keep your laser and illuminator separate? If this post has you ready to hit the range, head over to gunranges.com - a free directory to help you find shooting ranges near you, wherever you are in the United States.
