Spurs made it three consecutive Premier League wins for the first time in two years after beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with five players in particular leaving north London with plenty of credit. It was his corner that found an unmarked Archie Gray, who had the simple task of heading home the opener. That assist took the Ghanaian’s tally to three in the Premier League this season, despite having started just four games. Kudus is also now Tottenham’s leading assist provider this season. There had been some early concerns that Kudus had become a more cautious winger since returning from injury, seemingly less willing to take players on and drive forward as he used to. That certainly has not been an issue in his recent performances. He recorded the most touches in the opposition box in the game (11) and completed four successful dribbles. That is very impressive, considering Palace spent much of the afternoon sitting in a stubborn defensive block.Photo by Jacques Feeney/Offside/Offside via Getty ImagesJan Paul van Hecke is Tottenham’s unlikely top scorerTottenham have enjoyed a fairly balanced spread of goalscorers this season. Of the 10 goals they have scored in the Premier League, nine different players have found the net. There is, however, one player who has scored twice, and rather surprisingly, it is centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke.Losing Cristian Romero in the summer was a significant blow, given the Argentine’s threat from set-pieces and his ability to contribute goals. Van Hecke is beginning to show that he can offer something similar. The Dutchman scored Tottenham’s second against Palace after initially seeing his header come back off the crossbar. He reacted quickly to the rebound, poking the ball beyond Henderson at the second attempt.Interestingly, it was the first time in Premier League history that a goal had been scored from a seated position. (Squawka)Van Hecke also answered some of the criticism surrounding his aerial ability this season, winning all four of his aerial duels (4/4). He completed 29 passes into the final third, too, rounding off an excellent all-round performance and a well-deserved Man of the Match award. Most touches (160)Most successful passes (143)Most passes into the final third (29)Most line-breaking passes (14)Most shots (5)Joint-most aerial duels won (4)Joint-most shots on target (2)5 shots at goal (most)2 shots on target (joint most)4 aerial duels won (joint most)3 key passes119 accurate passes in the opposition half (most)38 forward passes (most)Mathys Tel is winning Roberto De Zerbi’s trustMathys Tel carried plenty of confidence into this fixture after scoring an incredible goal at Stamford Bridge last weekend, and the Frenchman looked comfortable taking on Palace’s defensive block. He created more chances than anyone else on the pitch (4) and also completed the most dribbles in the game (6). His decision-making in the final third, which Roberto De Zerbi criticised last month, appears to have improved considerably.Tel has looked far less wasteful in possession lately. Even when a move does not quite come off, he is increasingly finding ways to make something happen, whether that is getting past his marker or winning a corner. He did plenty of the latter against Palace.Mateus Fernandes continues to run Tottenham’s midfieldAfter producing one of Tottenham’s best midfield performances in years during last weekend’s win over Chelsea, Mateus Fernandes was once again at it against Crystal Palace. His role was slightly different this time. Palace were reduced to 10 men early in the game and rarely attempted to press high, meaning Fernandes did not operate as deep as he had done at Stamford Bridge.Nevertheless, the Portuguese midfielder linked play impressively in the middle of the park, contributing both offensively and defensively. It was also his corner that led to Van Hecke’s initial header against the crossbar, before the defender eventually scored from the rebound. If he maintains this level of performance, he could very well finish the season as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders.Luca Williams-Barnett nearly marked his debut with an assistDe Zerbi had resisted the growing calls to hand 18-year-old academy prospect Luca Williams-Barnett his Premier League debut, preferring to wait for the right opportunity rather than rush him into the side. That moment finally arrived against Crystal Palace. Tottenham were two goals ahead and had a man advantage, so De Zerbi introduced the youngster with just two minutes of normal time remaining.Williams-Barnett wasted little time making an impression. He showed some excellent footwork inside the box before laying the ball on a plate for Mohammed Kudus at the back post. It looked certain to result in an assist on his debut, only for Kudus to somehow miss a chance that seemed easier to score. It was a brief cameo, but one that offered a glimpse of the youngster’s mouth-watering potential. Hopefully, there will be more opportunities for him to impress in the coming fixtures.
