Roberto De Zerbi reveals Wilson Odobert injury timeline as Tottenham receive double boost

Wait 5 sec.

Wilson Odobert could finally return to Tottenham training in January, Roberto De Zerbi has revealed, nearly a year after the French winger suffered a serious knee injury.Odobert has not featured for the North Londoners since rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Newcastle United in February. While there had previously been suggestions that the 21-year-old might return before the end of 2026, he is still some way from being ready for competitive action.De Zerbi has now provided a clearer indication of when Odobert could resume training, alongside updates on some of the other currently injured Tottenham players, including Lucas Bergvall, Tosin Adarabioyo, Mykhailo Mudryk and Savio.Injured Tottenham playerInjuryPotential ReturnWilson OdobertKnee01/01/2027 (training)Xavi SimonsKnee2027Mykhailo MudrykAnkleNovember 2026SavioMuscularNovember 2026Lucas BergvallKneeNovember 2026Tosin AdarabioyoKnockNovember 2026Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramDe Zerbi reveals Wilson Odobert return timeline at TottenhamSpeaking to SPURSPLAY, with his comments published on Tottenham’s official website, De Zerbi was asked when Odobert could return to training following his lengthy spell on the sidelines.“(He should be back in training) After December. After Christmas. In January, I think. It is a great thing for us.” the Italian replied.De Zerbi has not provided an exact date for Wilson Odobert’s competitive comeback, and the Tottenham winger will need time to build up his fitness after such a long absence.Spurs Web had previously carried November 2026 as a possible return date, although our September injury roundup also listed January 2027 as an estimate. De Zerbi’s latest comments offer a clearer picture of the recovery timeline rather than confirmation of a new injury setback.Odobert has missed a significant period for TottenhamIt is easy to forget how involved Odobert had been before suffering his injury. The winger made 33 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 season, including 24 in the Premier League, and scored twice before his campaign was cut short.Injuries have been a recurring problem since his move from Burnley in August 2024. Odobert underwent hamstring surgery during his first season at Tottenham and has now spent much of 2026 recovering from a completely separate knee injury. There have been glimpses of what he can offer Spurs, including his two goals against AZ Alkmaar during the club’s Europa League-winning campaign. However, getting a consistent run of matches has proved difficult for the Frenchman. When Spurs Web assessed the squad’s performances last season, Odobert’s injury was one of the main reasons it was difficult to judge his progress. That remains the problem now, with De Zerbi yet to have the opportunity to work with him in competitive matches this season.Tosin and Bergvall could return for Tottenham against LeedsThere was better news for Tottenham regarding the availability of Tosin Adarabioyo and Lucas Bergvall, who could both be involved when Spurs travel to Leeds United on Saturday, November 7. The pair have missed recent matches but are expected to make progress before the international break.De Zerbi is hopeful that both will be available for selection, although he suggested they might not be ready to start at Elland Road. Their fitness will be assessed over the coming days before any decision is made.He added: “Before the international break, for Tosin and Bergvall. Maybe. Maybe not from the beginning against Leeds but available yes, I hope so.”Getting Bergvall and Tosin back would give Tottenham more options after a difficult period on the injury front. De Zerbi has managed to guide Spurs to three consecutive Premier League victories, but having a stronger bench will be useful as the fixtures continue.Mudryk and Savio expected after international breakMykhailo Mudryk and Savio are also making progress, although neither is expected to be available against Leeds. De Zerbi believes the two summer arrivals could return after the November international break. That leaves Tottenham without two of their wide attacking options for at least another league match. Mathys Tel has featured regularly on the left this season and has shown a marked improvement with his displays against Chelsea and Crystal Palace, while De Zerbi has also had to find different solutions across the forward line with Dominic Solanke still struggling to lead the line effectively.Odobert’s situation is different from the shorter-term problems affecting Mudryk and Savio. The latter two could be back later this month, but there is still no indication of when the Frenchman will be ready to play again in 2027.For now, Tottenham will have to plan without him. A return to training in January would be a welcome step, but there is little reason to rush a player who has already missed so much football.READ MORE: De Zerbi wanted two Tottenham players for every position, but does he have that? The post Roberto De Zerbi reveals Wilson Odobert injury timeline as Tottenham receive double boost appeared first on Spurs Web.
