I've been working on Linux for my PS5 Pro running firmware 11.60, using Bazzite Deck v1.8.9 and kernel 7.3.0. I've managed to fix several major issues and submitted multiple GitHub pull requests. 1. GPU firmware: 36 CUs → 60 CUs! I discovered that the PS5 Linux Loader was missing the correct Viola GPU firmware offset for PS5 Pro firmware 11.60. After finding the offset, rebuilding the loader, and fixing a separate Bazzite initramfs alignment problem, Linux now recognizes all 60 GPU compute units instead of only 36. That's 67% more active CUs than before—not an overclock or a claim of 67% more FPS. More importantly, several games that previously crashed are now working! 2. Gaming performance — Before vs. after Game / Settings Before After GPU fixes 007 First Light — 4K Low Crashed loading ~34 FPS in cutscenes, no crashes in retest 007 First Light — 1440p Ultra Crashed loading 53–61 FPS, no crashes in retest GTA V Legacy — 1440p 50-60 FPS, then GPU/HDMI crash after ~5 min ~60 FPS, previous crash not reproduced Manor Lords Crashed starting game Working past crash point RV There Yet? Crashed loading Working past crash point Other games already stable before these fixes: Black Ops III: Native 4K, 51–60 FPS (~56 average). GTA IV: Long-term stability confirmed. GTA V with LSPDFR: ~47 FPS average in separate modded testing. GTA V Enhanced's earlier crash sequence still needs a post-fix retest but im sure it works just as good as legacy. These are my actual observed results, not standardized benchmarks. The biggest improvement has been game stability. 3. Fixed GPU performance overlay Steam's overlay was incorrectly showing 0% GPU utilization. I found two AMDGPU problems involving a duplicate gpu_busy_percent attribute and unsupported Viola gpu_metrics data. I rebuilt AMDGPU, and GPU utilization and temperature now display correctly. 4. Fixed internal PS5 Pro Bluetooth The internal MediaTek 0e8d:3605 adapter sometimes failed initialization with HCI Reset error -16. Previously, reloading btusb could recover it on affected boots. This wasn't necessary on every reboot. I modified the kernel driver to correct the first-probe initialization timing. After 4+ successful cold-boot tests, Bluetooth initialized without a driver reload, and the previous errors didn't recur. 5. Separate DualSense profiles for PS5 OS and Linux! I also fixed Linux-only Bluetooth address support on the PS5 Pro. Now I can switch between: PS + Circle: Official PS5 OS PS + Square: Linux I've tested switching between both systems without reconnecting a USB cable or pairing again. The Linux Bluetooth MAC is changed automatically at startup and doesn't permanently modify the original address. My GitHub fixes GPU / Linux loader: PR #91 — PS5 Pro 11.60 Viola GPU firmware fix Issue #27 — Bazzite initramfs alignment bug PR #29 — GPU overlay utilization/temperature fix My working loader fork and instructions Tested loader release Bluetooth: PR #30 — Bluetooth kernel initialization fix PR #31 — Separate Linux Bluetooth MAC address Issue #26 — Bluetooth troubleshooting Updated test results for both Bluetooth fixes I'm also preparing a PR for the Bazzite initramfs alignment fix. Final thoughts I've gone from 36 active GPU CUs, frequent game crashes, broken GPU telemetry, and unreliable Bluetooth to 60 CUs, much better stability in previously failing games, working GPU monitoring, and independent DualSense pairing profiles. The Viola loader correction is specifically tested for PS5 Pro firmware 11.60. The Bluetooth and other driver fixes may also benefit different firmware versions using the same hardware, but those versions still need validation. These changes are hardware-tested on my console, but the PRs are awaiting upstream review. Hopefully they help other PS5 Pro Linux users! If you're running Linux on a PS5 or PS5 Pro, I'd love to compare results. submitted by /u/mfoster978 [link] [comments]
