By Mulengera ReportersSenior Kampala lawyer Edgar Tabaro says he is fearful the next very destructive political war in Uganda is going to erupt inside PLU as Gen MK’s top lieutenants jostle for supremacy inside the organization. Speaking on Capital Gang on Saturday, Tabaro said that with Gen Museveni clearly signaling CEC that it’s time to consider Gen MK as his successor come 2031, key actors inside PLU are going to begin positioning themselves to play consequential apex roles inside the post-Museveni government and that is going to amplify contradictions and rivalries and thereby creating total chaos in the political arena. This will create very bad publicity for PLU and Tabaro says that Gen Museveni, as an elderly statesman, had better get involved in deescalating the situation before it gets too late. Tabaro was referring to perceived antagonism between PLU adherents sheltering under the David Kabanda-headed office of PLU National Chairman at Nakasero and those based at Naguru which is the PLU Secretariat headed by MP Twala Fadhil. Tabaro fears that that impending war, if not mitigated on good time, could lead to emergency of factionalism inside Gen MK’s PLU. During the same radio program, leading Movement ideologue Ofwono Opondo admitted that time had indeed come for Gen YK Museveni, who has been at it since the 1960s, to let go of the Presidency so that someone else takes the driver’s seat for both the country and the Movement. Opondo said he was looking forward to taking part in a robust debate to determine who succeeds Kaguta’s son, who has very appropriately led both Uganda and the Movement since 1986 without break.
