Built ScreenGist: an app that truly understands videos and summarizes it

Wait 5 sec.

Hi r/SideProject! I'm the developer of Screen Gist, a Mac app that turns whatever's playing on your screen into a timestamped summary. Not only I personally use it for my meetings (no bot joins your call), but also youtube videos and courses. The problem I am solving: most AI summaries work from the transcript alone. In lectures, talks and demos, the important part is often only on screen: a formula on a slide, the numbers on a chart, the code in a demo. None of that makes it into a transcript. Furthermore, you can interact with your summary/transcript by chatting with it, translate it into your language OR turn them into actionable items. What it does: pick a window, one browser tab or the whole screen, press Start and keep watching. When you stop, you get an overview, timestamped chapters (or meeting minutes) and the full transcript, with what was on screen included. It works on anything that plays on a Mac, including courses behind a login and calls, with no meeting bot. Pricing: Either $9.99/mo for 25 hours a month of usage + carry over upto 10 hours, OR pay $14.99 for 36 hours without worrying about a monthly commitment. Currently, you get 1 hour of FREE usage for Mac when you download. Choices I made: - Cloud over local: it runs on frontier models from the major AI labs, for accuracy, so it isn't an offline app. - No recordings kept: no video or audio file is saved anywhere, my server stores none of the content, and summaries stay on your Mac. There's no account. - Mac only: a native app for Apple silicon and >= macOS 26. Read: Privacy page for more clarity on how your data is used See: Demos to see some examples of what it can do! Also see: Terms to understand your responsibility while using it Where I'd love feedback: - How's the accuracy like for you? - What would you like to see in the app that would change the way you work? submitted by /u/nuclearnadal65 [link] [comments]
