Caleb Wiley joins Preston North End on season-long loan

Caleb Wiley is heading back to the EFL Championship.Wiley has joined second-tier side Preston North End on a season-long loan from Chelsea, both clubs announced Friday. The 21-year-old spent parts of two different loans with fellow second-tier side Watford before heading back to Chelsea for injury rehabilitation last season. “It’s a very exciting time. Everything’s happened pretty quickly but I’m really looking forward to my time here,” Wiley said in a club interview. “The minute that I was told that Preston were interested, I was instantly excited for this opportunity. I’ve had some great conversations with the manager already and it’s clear what he wants from me. I’m looking forward to my time here and growing as a player.”Wiley originally came up through the Atlanta United ranks and proceeded to make 85 appearances for the MLS club in all competitions.He joined Chelsea in Summer 2024 and was later loaned out to Strasbourg and then Watford on two different occasions. Wiley made six Ligue 1 appearances for Strasbourg and 15 combined appearances for Watford in England’s second division. Preston North End has failed to win any of its opening three matches of the new season, most recently falling 4-0 to Everton on Thursday in EFL Cup play.
