Concerns are being raised over conditions facing students sitting their MATSEC resit examinations, with multiple reports reaching Lovin Malta about examination halls becoming unbearably hot.One mother, whose daughter is currently in her second year of sixth form, spoke directly to Lovin Malta after her daughter sat an exam at Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School in Naxxar, describing the conditions inside the examination room as “extremely hot”.According to the mother, the room had ceiling fans but no other means of cooling, with her daughter emerging from the examination so hot that her clothes were wet and she was feeling nauseous. Her daughter is entitled to extra time during examinations but ultimately decided not to make use of it because she felt she could not remain in the heat any longer. The mother also told Lovin Malta that she was made aware of a separate student who fainted during an examination and had to be taken to the bathroom to cool down and wet her face. She stressed that students spend months working hard and preparing for these examinations, making it particularly frustrating for their performance to potentially be affected by the conditions in which they are expected to sit them. While she said she does not expect examination rooms to have air-conditioning “blasting” throughout the exam, she believes better conditions should be provided so students can focus solely on their papers rather than struggling with the heat. The mother has since contacted MATSEC by email to raise her concerns and was informed that the matter is being looked into.Lovin Malta also reached out to MATSEC for comment regarding the reported conditions but had received no response at the time of writing.Do you know anyone that experienced similar conditions during their MATSEC resits?•
