The complexion of Saturday's GI Forego Stakes at Saratoga took an about-face when reigning champion sprinter and Saratoga powerhouse Book'em Danno (Bucchero) was scratched Saturday morning after getting cast in his stall Friday night. Fleur de Lis Stables homebred Hymn (g, 4, McKinzie–Salt Bae, by Paynter), whose transformation from bully to gelding was detailed in an edition of Saratoga Notebook this week, stepped up to the plate and captured the Forego, earning a 'Win and You're In' berth to the GI Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Keeneland in two months.Favored 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' Tip Top Thomas (Volatile) set the Forego's pace while Hymn stuck to his flank through :22.61 and :45.03 splits. Hymn put away Tip Top Thomas away in the stretch, powering home in front of a blanket scramble for second, which resulted in a deadheat between T Kraft (Connect) and Senior Officer (Into Mischief) while Crazy Mason (Coal Front) was just inches back in fourth. Hymn got the seven furlongs in 1:22.48.Last seen finishing second to Built (Hard Spun) in the July 25 GII Alfred G.
