Second-time starter EMANCIPATE (c, 2, Uncle Mo–Marley's Freedom, by Blame) endured a wild race Saturday, prevailing at the end to break his maiden at Del Mar.The trajectory of the race changed right at the gate as favorite Ala Sawab (Flightline) stumbled out of the stall and dropped jockey Joel Rosario. The other three runners came away evenly and in good order in a three-wide line across the track.Emancipate was the first of the trio to stick a head in front but now had a loose horse to contend with as Ala Sawab circled the field while forcing both Bid (Essential Quality) and Riccelli (Nyquist) to steady around the far turn.The 7-2 second choice now had company right alongside him but, as Ala Sawab continued towards the front, he also ducked in to the rail which forced Emancipate to also take up under Antonio Fresu. Finally, as the loose horse cleared the action and ran ears pricked to the line, Emancipate was able to collect himself and lead in Riccelli for the win.
