An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred only 14 minutes ago 49 km northeast of Arica, Chile, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 94. km beneath the epicenter near Arica, Provincia de Arica, Region de Arica y Parinacota, Chile, around noon on Sunday, August 30th, 2026, at 12:04 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.9 as well.
