Another violent scene erupted in the heart of New York City on Monday afternoon when NYPD officers shot a knife-wielding woman who was reportedly accused of stabbing two people in Times Square.The police-involved shooting unfolded shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 31, near West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, smack in the middle of one of the busiest tourist destinations in America.CBS New York reported that officers rushed to the area after receiving a radio call for a “person with a knife.”The New York Post reported that the suspect was a knife-wielding woman who had allegedly stabbed two people before officers shot and wounded her.Dramatic video circulating on social media captured the chaotic scene as NYPD officers confronted the armed woman before gunfire erupted.An eyewitness who recorded the scene said the attacker slashed the person standing right in front of him.“This lady was running around stabbing people in time square. She straight up stabbed the person in front of me. Shit could’ve been me,” posted NYC rapper and producer Austen (@austen_tv).You can watch the video here.According to Gothamist, the officer-involved shooting occurred at approximately 4:27 p.m. The NYPD immediately launched an investigation.Police warned New Yorkers to stay away from the area following the shooting.“Expect traffic delays, road closures, mass transit disruptions & emergency personnel near 42nd Street & 7th Avenue, Manhattan. Avoid the area,” the NYPD said, according to CBS New York.The latest bloodshed comes as Times Square and its massive transit hub have been rocked by a disturbing string of violent incidents.Just days earlier, an on-duty MTA cleaner was stabbed after confronting a man who was allegedly urinating on a Times Square subway platform. The 30-year-old worker suffered a severe laceration to his arm and was transported to Bellevue Hospital. The suspect escaped aboard a downtown No. 1 train.And on Monday morning, just hours before the police shooting, the NYPD publicized its search for another suspect accused of stabbing a 35-year-old man in the head at the Times Square subway station earlier in August. Police said that attack began as a verbal dispute before the suspect pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the victim.In June, Times Square was also thrown into panic when gunfire erupted during another violent confrontation.
