Final-year students at Makerere University who fell short in some course units have been given a fresh opportunity to complete their studies after the university authorised the administration of supplementary examinations in September. The decision will see eligible final-year students sit supplementary examinations during the week of September 7–11, 2026, in a move intended to support their timely completion of studies. The announcement was contained in a communication dated August 28, 2026, signed by Makerere University Guild President H.E. Kadondi Gracious.According to the Guild, the exceptional examinations follow a decision of the University Council made during its 171st meeting, which directed the University Senate to draft a Supplementary Examinations Policy. The interim arrangement has been approved on an exceptional basis pending the formal consideration and ratification of the policy by Senate.Who qualifies? The opportunity is not open to all students who have failed examinations. The Guild communication states that the arrangement is restricted to final-year students who have not failed more than two course units. For undergraduate students, candidates must have obtained a final mark between 30% and 49%, while postgraduate students must have a final mark between 40% and 59%.This means students who fall outside the specified number of failed units or marks may not benefit from the exceptional arrangement.Successful students could graduate in JanuaryStudents who successfully pass the supplementary examinations will not have to wait for another academic year to graduate. The Guild said marks obtained from the examinations will be undertaken immediately and successful candidates will be considered for inclusion in the 77th Graduation Ceremony scheduled for January 2027.Eligible students have consequently been advised to apply for the examinations and contact their respective College Principal, Dean or Head of Department for guidance. The move is expected to come as relief to final-year students who would otherwise have faced delays in completing their academic programmes because of one or two outstanding course units. The Guild said it remains committed to supporting students’ academic progress and will continue engaging university management on matters concerning student welfare. The post MAKERERE ALLOWS FINAL-YEAR STUDENTS TO SIT SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMS was written by the awesome team at Campus Bee.
