How many children were diagnosed with ARFID in South Sudan this year? Or in fact since it was added to the DSM in 2013? How do you account for the fact that the majority of cases are diagnosed in western culture? Do children in countries with entirely different food culture still refuse to eat anything except highly processed carbs and reformed chicken products? Or would their diet be limited to the foods which are ‘basic’ where they’re from? Older generations of parents may have been awful, but I know for a fact that if my parents or grandparents had refused to eat what they got given, they’d learned the hard way to shut up and get on with it in future.
