A new art exhibition exploring womanhood, identity and perception is coming to Gozo this September, but visitors will only have one weekend to experience it.Gozo-based artists Emma Weller and Mieke Buddenberg are presenting Hija, an exhibition spanning sculpture, painting, drawing, textiles and installation at Franka Inn in Fontana.Meaning “she” or “she is” in Maltese, Hija sees the two artists reflect on womanhood while exploring wider ideas surrounding identity and perception. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)The works use materiality and abstraction to convey psychological states, while animal imagery appears throughout as a metaphor for the wider human condition.The artists have also incorporated materials connected to the island, including Gozitan sandstone and natural earth pigments, alongside imagery influenced by personal psychology and their connection to place.A short film exploring the creative processes behind Hija will be available throughout the exhibition, alongside a curatorial essay and poems written by the artists.The exhibition will open at Franka Inn in Fontana on Friday 4th September from 7pm, with music and refreshments. It will then be open from 12pm to 3pm on Saturday 5th September and Sunday 6th September.The intimate setting of Franka Inn will also form part of the exhibition, with its atmosphere and architecture contributing to an immersive experience outside the traditional gallery setting.With Hija running for one weekend only, will you be checking it out?•
