The Federal Trade Commission expects to bring a complaint against Amazon on Monday, charging that the e-commerce giant manipulated advertising prices and profited by tens of billions of dollars over seven years, according to agency officials. The case, filed by a bipartisan group of more than 20 state attorneys general, will claim that Amazon deceived advertisers by covertly boosting the minimum amount they had to pay to post advertising promoting their items, according to FTC officials. The case, which will be filed in a Seattle federal court, will be the consumer protection agency's third major case against Amazon. Last year, Amazon agreed to pay $2.5 billion to settle an earlier lawsuit alleging it tricked people into signing up for its Prime service and made it difficult to cancel the subscription. Another action alleging illegal monopolization by Amazon is scheduled for trial next year.
