English second-tier side Middlesbrough has made its third American acquisition of the summer. Rokas Pukstas has officially joined from Croatian side Hajduk Split, both clubs announced Monday. The American midfielder signed a five-year deal with Middlesbrough after putting pen-to-paper over the weekend. “I’m delighted to be here,” Pukstas said. “I had a call with the coach and directors here. He’s a fascinating coach, the people are lovely and it reminds me of home. Everything seems aligned now I’m here.”Hull City, Birmingham City, and Samsunspor were among several clubs interested in Pukstas this summer, but he will be taking his talents to Teesside. Pukstas, 22, was in the early stages of his fifth full season with Hajduk Split after previously spending time in the Sporting KC academy ranks. The Oklahoma native delivered a career-best 10 goals last season and scored four goals in 10 appearances this campaign. Pukstas totaled 28 goals and six assists in 142 appearances for Hajduk Split, most recently helping the club seal a first European berth in 16 years. “I’d been at Hajduk Split for six years,” he added. “It was an amazing night and was very emotional. The team knew it was my last game and to have that storybook ending was amazing, but it’s time to turn that page and compete here. I want to play my part in helping the club to the Premier League.”He remains a top prospect for the U.S. Men’s National Team after previously playing for the Under-20’s, U-21’s and U-23’s. Pukstas joins fellow Americans Sebastian Berhalter, Aidan Morris and Max Arfsten in the Middlesbrough ranks. Berhalter and Arfsten made the move from MLS to England earlier this summer. Middlesbrough will continue its EFL Championship schedule on Wednesday at Burnley.
