My parents local lake association ($50/year membership) had a very active Facebook page that was initially set up for Lake Asociation members but over time got more popular with even just folks visiting the lake. Lots of good info on there from lost canoes, to local events. Well, this new lady joins the association board who has a lot of opinions and little else going on. Eventually she becomes president as no one else wants to do it, and decides the Facebook page should be for members only. Someone sets up a new page. Everyone migrates to the new page, and about half the people decided they didnt need to spend the $50 a year anymore either. Just that one decision basically killed the lake association.
