Strong strombolian eruption at Lewotolok volcano early on 30 Aug 2026 (image: Michael Martin / www.michael-martin.de)The activity at the volcano has been very intense over the past weeks, as the group of an ongoing expeditions to Flores observed: Strombolian to vulcanian type explosions occurred on average every 5-15 minutes, ejecting abundant incandescent material and ash plumes that rose approx. 200 - 800 m above the summit crater. Loud explosion sounds accompanied the eruptions.
