If the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is your very first foldable phone, you may have noticed that some One UI features we usually take for granted and often praise aren't enabled by default.And if the Fold 8/8 Ultra is your first Android phone, first of all, congratulations. Second of all, you're in for a wild ride with the user tips we're about to share, especially if you're an ex-iPhone user.Take split-screen/multi-window and pop-up view gestures, for example. Some One UI users depend on these gestures so much, even on non-folding phones, that they might as well be considered core One UI features.And yet, they're not really. You'll find them turned off by default in One UI 9, unless you're importing your old settings from another Galaxy phone using Smart Switch. Which, as it turns out, isn't always a good idea for foldables.Multi-window and pop-up gestures add a whole new dimension to the One UI experience, and they're particularly well suited to tablets and Galaxy Z Folds. These gestures also work on smaller, rigid Galaxy phones, but they really come into their own on a foldable.That's why you should give these gestures a run or another try even if you didn't like them on your old rigid Galaxy phone before. Your new Fold 8/8 Ultra might just change your mind.Enable these multitasking gestures firstBefore you can use the gestures, you'll need to enable them. The second screen will pop-out from the same edge you swiped.NOTE: For this gesture to work, you need to have an app open. You can't use the gesture while viewing the home screen.Galaxy Z Fold 8/8 Ultra pop-up window gesturePop-up windows work similarly, but with a different gesture.While in an app, swipe inward from the upper-right corner of the screen. The app will switch from the usual full-screen view to a floating pop-up window that you can resize and move around freely.Once you enable it, this gesture works the same on both the cover and main screens. Galaxy Z Fold 8 pop-up view | Source: Mihai Matei / SamMobile Try them out, but remember that both gestures cannot be used at onceOne limitation you should be aware of if you plan to make gestures a part of your routine: You can have both gestures enabled at the same time, but you can't use split-screen and pop-up windows simultaneously.In other words, if you already have two apps open in split screen, you can't use the pop-up window gesture. Conversely, if an app is open in a pop-up, you can't launch split screen by swiping inward with two fingers.Still, combining these tools with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Fold 8 Ultra's main screen can be a game changer. Even if you've never found much use for these gestures on your previous, non-foldable Galaxy phones, they're worth trying again on a Fold.Just remember.
