Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Paris Saint-Germain forward Ibrahim Mbaye for a reported £47m (€54.8m) transfer fee. Mbaye was the subject of interest from Villa's Premier League rivals Liverpool this summer, but the 18-year-old has decided to join Unai Emery's side on deadline day. The Villans tried to pursue a move for Mbaye in January but were unable to complete a deal before returning for him in this window and finally securing his signature. Since making his PSG debut in 2024, Mbaye has made 42 appearances across all competitions for the club, registering eight goal contributions (four goals, four assists). Mbaye was limited to 32 appearances in all competitions in 2025-26, with only 11 of those being starts, scoring three goals and providing three assists for Luis Enrique's side. And even with Bradley Barcola's move to Liverpool officially being completed on Monday, PSG have also allowed Mbaye to leave after strengthening their attack with the additions of Ferran Torres, Mika Godts and Maghnes Akliouche. During his time in the French capital, Mbaye won eight major honours, which include two Ligue 1 titles and two Champions League crowns. He adds quality to a Villa front line that have failed to fire in their opening two games of the Premier League season. After Monday's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, Villa are just the second team to fail to have a shot on target in their first two Premier League matches in a season, along with Swansea City in 2017-18 since Opta began recording shot data in 2003-04. Villa have also lost their first two Premier League matches of the season for the first time since 2019-20.They are the first team to finish in the top four of the top flight (fourth in 2025-26) and then lose their first two games of the following season since both Arsenal and Manchester United in 1992-93, and the first to do so without scoring since Queens Park Rangers in 1976-77.Mbaye could now make his debut for Villa against Hull City on Saturday, with Emery's side facing the newly promoted club at the MKM Stadium.
