An Applebee’s manager recently caused quite a stir when he accused two identical twins of presenting the same identification card, leading to a confusing conversation. The TikToker pair, The Paradise Twins, operate their own media company in New Jersey, were simply trying to order some drinks with their meal when the situation happened. The resulting video of part of the conversation has already racked up 18.8K views on TikTok. At the start of the video, we hear the manager tell them, “I’m telling you that these are both the same ID as far as the number goes. They’re both the same ID,” the manager stated. When one of the twins said, “That’s really cool,” in confusion, the manager cut him off. He told them, “It’s not really cool because I can’t serve two of you with the same ID.” The twins were baffled, so the second brother asked, “Can we call the cops and I’ll leave your Applebee’s if that’s what you want?” The manager immediately responded, “No, I don’t want you to leave. I’m just saying that this is the same ID.” Then the second brother detailed the problem, “You can’t serve me, though.” The manager repeated, “I can’t serve two people with the same ID,” and then left. Then the twins turn to the next table for clarification, “Are you guys seeing this right now?” They even asked, “Are we crazy? Am I crazy?” The other asked, “Are you for real right now?” The misreading The other table took a look at the IDs themselves and provided the brothers with validation. As one customer confirmed, “They’re not the same job or license number.” Faced with this outside verification, they went back to the manager, who checked it again and finally told them, “You guys are good then.” @theparadisetwins Thought we should share • • • #fyp #applebees #viralvideos #funny #comedy ♬ original sound – The Paradise Twins – The Paradise Twins One of the twins politely apologized for the confusion. However, then the manager hit them with a question that made them burst out laughing. “Are you from Canada or something?” At the end of the post, we see one of the twins enjoying his drinks while typing on his phone. He then turned it to face the camera, and we see that he is filling out a customer experience survey. Their viewers were just as flabbergasted as them. One TikToker asked, “did they literally not bother to check names? signatures? DL #? issue date?? my brother in christ just called himself out for only looking at the photo… as a server, yikes!” Another user echoed this sentiment, noting, “I was a waitress for fifty leven years and never once looked at the id number. If it looks real, the face matches, and it’s not expired…here u gooo.” Other commenters thought the twins were too kind. One person noted, “I’d have still called the cop and made him look really ridiculous and stupid to everyone.” Interestingly, this isn’t the only confrontation Applebee’s had recently regarding IDs. In New York, a branch not only kicked a group out after they suspected the IDs were fake, but they allegedly snapped the IDs in half. According to Bar & Restaurant News, checking IDs is essential for any establishment serving alcohol. Carrie A. Christofes, executive director of the National Liquor Law Enforcement Association, emphasized that failing to check IDs can lead to severe legal consequences, including fines, loss of liquor licenses, or even closure. She noted that checking IDs carefully is vital for public health and safety. Industry expert Izzy Kharasch, president of Hospitality Works, agreed. He noted that checking IDs “is everything” for those in the hospitality industry. He stressed that every customer-facing employee needs to be involved in the process, from the door to the bar. However, the Paradise brothers’ situation highlights a key part of the issue: consistent employee training. Jeffrey Jannarone, a consultant with Jannarone Consulting, pointed out that one of the biggest mistakes operators make is failing to thoroughly train staff on proper verification techniques. Jannarone explained that this can lead to inconsistent enforcement and misreading legitimate IDs. The pitfalls of poor training often include rushing the process or failing to check all IDs. Jannarone advised that establishments should implement comprehensive training programs and provide tools like ID scanners to ensure consistency. Robert “Bob” Pomplun, founder of Serving Alcohol, suggested that role-playing different scenarios can help staff feel more prepared. While the twins were able to eventually get their orders in, it should be noted that they were really nice about it. If they had escalated the situation, it could have been worse. Thus, the incident underscores the importance of maintaining a professional and knowledgeable staff to ensure a positive environment for all patrons.
