By Aggrey BabaPresident Yoweri Museveni has allegedly given his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the greenlight to pursue the presidency in 2031, with the President himself expected to take charge of his son’s campaign when the time comes.The explosive revelation was made by Hon. David Kabanda, the head of the NRM Chairman’s Office and Kasambya County MP, during a mega political mobilization event at the Chairman’s Office on Tuesday, that brought together MPs subscribing to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), LC III chairpersons from Butambala District, PLU supporters and the media.Kabanda said the much-anticipated appearance of Gen Muhoozi at the event had been planned as a surprise, but the General failed to turn up after being caught up with other engagements.But while Muhoozi was absent, Kabanda delivered the biggest political message of the gathering, declaring that the question of the General’s 2031 presidential bid had already been discussed and agreed upon between Muhoozi and his father.According to Kabanda, Museveni has already given Muhoozi the go-ahead, and when the presidential contest eventually comes, the veteran NRM leader will not merely watch from the sidelines but will reportedly serve as his son’s chief campaigner.The declaration effectively pushes the Muhoozi succession project from speculation into a visibly organized political operation, with supporters now being asked to begin building structures that could eventually stretch across Uganda.Kabanda revealed that specially prepared endorsement books, personally signed by Gen Muhoozi, have already been produced for supporters and district organisers.The books, he explained, are not ordinary attendance registers. They contain the date, PC number, names, addresses, contacts and reasons for endorsing Muhoozi.And Kabanda had a warning for political actors who may attempt to join the Muhoozi camp after the General becomes president, saying the records would be preserved as evidence of those who stood with Muhoozi from the beginning, recalling how some MPs had initially mocked his supporters as “vagabonds” and “wanderers” before later changing their positions.“When you see them running, we shall first check in the book: are you one of the cowards who came last?” Kabanda said.The mobilization campaign, he revealed, is expected to spread beyond the Chairman’s Office, with PLU supporters being encouraged to organize endorsement rallies across all 146 districts of Uganda.Kabanda said supporters seeking to organize such rallies would be required to write formal requests which would be submitted for approval before the Chairman’s Office provides the necessary endorsement materials and support.The strategy is based on an ambitious target attributed to Muhoozi, that the Gen. MK’s supporters should mobilize across the country with the ultimate objective of securing as much as 98% of the vote.Kabanda also invoked Museveni’s own political journey, arguing that major political movements often begin with a small group before expanding into national forces.He cited Museveni’s 1980s struggle, saying that when the President went to Kabamba, he reportedly had only 41 people around him, but eventually built a movement that captured state power and has been able to rule Uganda for over forty years.The message from the Chairman’s Office was therefore unmistakable, and now Muhoozi’s supporters are no longer waiting for 2031 to begin political mobilization.They are already compiling names, assigning district responsibilities, seeking endorsement rallies and creating a record of those who stood with the General at the earliest stage of his presidential journey.This is developing story.
