Veteran music producer and singer Washington Ebangit has opened up about the relationship between music producers in Uganda’s entertainment industry, insisting that he does not harbour envy or jealousy toward his fellow producers.Speaking from his personal experience dealing with other industry players, Ebangit said he has never believed in beefing or competing negatively with fellow producers.He went on to make a rather unusual claim, revealing that he is even friends with traditional healers, whom he says often share information with him whenever other industry players visit them.We producers don’t have jealousy or envy against one another. I don’t know about others, but me, I don’t envy or beef anyone. Even the witch doctors are my friends and love me a lot because most of them are my fans. Those witch doctors whom you visit send the message back to me, alerting me that some broke individuals have visited them.Beyond producer relationships, Ebangit also aimed at major brands, questioning why they rarely recognise music producers through endorsement deals despite benefiting from their work.Crysto Panda warns against relying solely on hits for survivalHe argued that producers deserve to be celebrated and rewarded for the sounds that brands use to promote their businesses and generate revenue.“Has any company ever endorsed a producer? Let’s say they put up a billboard with my image to act as the face of the brand this year because they have my sound on their platforms. Yet they earn a lot from the sound for many years, but they cannot give back to producers by recognising the work they have done.
