The new Muppets coaster at the Walt Disney World Resort is already being changed.Credit: rickpilot_2000, FlickrDisney has filed a new permit for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — a curious move considering the attraction only recently underwent a full reimagining that swapped its Aerosmith theming for a Muppets-driven storyline, complete with a new on-ride soundtrack, updated queue, and refreshed visual effects throughout the launch coaster’s inversions and high-speed turns.“Step inside G-Force Records for a VIP tour of the Muppets’ music studio, where The Electric Mayhem is jamming out… and running very late for their own concert across town,” the official Disney World website writes. “Scooter (their band manager), Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the Muppets must hatch a plan to get everyone—including you—to the show!”Filed by Disney’s Sourcing & Procurement department, the permit contracts Buena Vista Construction Company, Disney’s in-house construction arm, to “provide labor, materials, and/or electrical for construction.” Filed on August 26, the permit expires in one year. Given that the attraction recently reopened with its new theming, the filing could simply reflect routine maintenance or punch-list work rather than another overhaul.Credit: DisneyThe permit comes as Hollywood Studios continues to reshape its offerings elsewhere in the park, most notably with the Monsters, Inc.-themed land now under construction nearby. That expansion is expected to partially open in 2027, bringing new dining and retail themed to Monstropolis, with its marquee attraction — a coaster built around the “door” concept from the 2001 film — slated to join the land at a later date once construction on that portion wraps.“The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley,” Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, then Disney Experiences chairman, told the D23 Expo 2024 crowd. “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too.
