A new facility in Ħal Far which will serve as an extension of the Corradino Correctional Facility is nearing completion, with works expected to be finished in the coming days.Around 30 inmates approaching the final months of their sentences are expected to be gradually transferred from Kordin once the building begins operating. The facility forms part of the Ħal Far Detention Centre and is being prepared by prison employees together with incarcerated people themselves.Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield visited the site as works entered their final stages, saying the additional capacity is needed as pressure on Kordin continues to grow. There are currently around 800 people incarcerated at Corradino, a facility which dates back to 1850 and faces limitations because of its age, available space and structure. The new Ħal Far building will offer conditions comparable to those at Kordin, according to the government.Bedingfield said authorities will continue investing in correctional infrastructure while ensuring appropriate conditions and security for those incarcerated. What do you make of the new facility?•
